Canberra City News:

“The unity and style that Block Sounds creates make them a standout group not only in baroque music, but also right up to contemporary music.”

…about the concert:

Autumn is upon us, and here in Canberra we are experiencing the pleasure of a new season, the colouring of the leaves, the turbulent skies, the gently darkening early evenings, the changing bird calls, the stillness of the lake on misty mornings, and the first of the icy winds sweeping down from the mountains.

I have curated this concert to reflect these changes through music that speaks to, and of, nature. Some pieces are descriptive, others allegorical and several programmatic. They depict fire, water and wind, birds and calm evenings, trees and fairy rings, fountains and meditative Australian journeys. From the Renaissance era to contemporary Australia, composers have been inspired by their natural environment. We invite you to journey with us  through a series of landscapes, European and Australian, old and new, harsh and soothing.

BlockSounds is delighted that the Canberra Uccellini recorder consort, joint winners of the Australasian Recorder Competition, can join us to perform “Journeying” by Sydney composer, Diana Blom.

We hope you can join us.

Robyn Mellor has directed recorder and vocal ensembles, performed on recorders and led workshops in Canberra and around Australia for over 30 years.
